Dog training

We all went dog training last Sunday in a place just outside Alicante called Starcan training (http://www.starcan.es/). Well my puppies did more than I did as I have already done the Kennel Club Good Citizen awards in Bronze, Silver and Gold when we lived in England. Amber was with Mum and Ruby was with Dad and they did some basic obedience for the first part of the morning and then what they call “Happy Agility” for the rest of the morning.

That looked like good fun and they went up the A frame and through a plastic tunnel and over three small jumps. I know I could do that too – I do hope Mum lets me show them how to do it with “style” next week…

My puppies are one year old today – I can´t believe it is a year since I had them! Mum and Dad sang Happy Birthday to Amber and Ruby this morning and we are all going out for a nice long walk this afternoon which will be good. I think Mum and Dad are going to buy them some presents today when we go out shopping – I hope they don´t forget me as after all it was me who did all the hard work, wasn´t it…………….

Christmas

I thought I would let you all know about our Christmas as Mum and Dad took me and the two girls away for Christmas. It wasn´t too far in the car and we stayed at a nice hotel which also had a kitchen which was good for Mum to prepare our food in.

I knew it was Christmas as Dad had brought the Christmas stockings with us. On Christmas morning we each had a stocking with our presents in it. I had a big tuggie to play with, some chewies and a yellow squeeky hedgehog. Amber and Ruby opened their presents too but they wanted to play with my hedgehog. The squeeky was great fun until Ruby decided that the hedgehog didn´t need it´s nose and chewed it off – then it didn´t squeak any more. Mum had to take it off her…silly girl!

We won at Alicante Dog Show

Mum and Dad took me and the two girls to the Alicante Dog show recently. I was very proud of the girls and my other daughter Belle as Mum, Dad and Astrid put them into the breeders class and they came second and won a huge cup and loads of dog food – yum! yum!

I won the CACIB and Best of Breed and Mum was very pleased as the judge was Frank Kane and he is judging Best in Show at Crufts this year.

Mum says I am not going to Crufts this year as it is too far – I don´t understand as it´s only at Birmingham and we normally go but Mum and Dad are going and leaving me and my daughters with Uncle John. Still that will be nice as he always gives me lots of treats…

Rocco and Millie go to their new homes

Hi everyone my son Rocco and my daugther Millie have now gone to their new homes in England. Mum, Dad and the three of us took a very long trip in the car and stayed in hotels (which is good fun!) and then went on a train thing to take my two puppies to their new homes. Amber and Ruby stayed home with Uncle John. It was a very long trip but Mum says that they are very happywith their new families now.

I am now waiting for Amber and Ruby to go to their new homes but I think they may be staying as Dad has begun to give us all bits of toast in the morning and that’s my breakfast – only the special ones get toast…

I have been trying to teach Amber and Ruby how to hunt for birds in the field we walk in. I have showed them how to “quarter” and Dad is throwing the ball into the long grass to act as the bird, so they have to find it. They get a bit confused but they seem to be getting the idea, Ruby does it better than Amber at the moment! Mum has taken a video of them “hunting” for the ball…I hope you like it.

Seven months old update…

Hi everyone my puppies are now 7 months old and getting very big. I have been busy with being in season and Mum and Dad have been busy not letting Rocco come near me. Anyway that’s over now so we all went to another show at Villena the other day. It was a fairly short car ride which was good but the show was held in a bullring and the floor was all sandy which got everywhere. Mum did not like the sand as she had bathed all my puppies and me and we started to get dirty again – thank goodness for the cages and our rugs to keep us clean before we went to see the judges.

Dad showed Rocco and he won the Dog Puppy class and then Mum won the Bitch Puppy class with Amber. Rocco was much better behaved today and he won the Best Puppy in Breed award which was great. I won the Best of Breed of course and showed my puppies what to do by moving around the ring correctly at the right speed – they have to learn these things…

All the puppies went into the Breeders class and Mum was very pleased as we won this time and got a cup, a bag of dog food and a Eukanuba camping chair. This was a really good thing as Mum and Dad had lost the last two camping chairs at the last show. This is a photo of the puppies on the winning podium -

We then had a long wait and then it was the turn of the Best Puppies and Mum showed Rocco and he did very well by winning the Best Puppy in Group 8. There was then another judge and he went well again and he won BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – we were all so thrilled and Mum and Dad won another camping chair and a huge ham “jamon” which smelt lovely (I do hope we will get to share this!) -

Mum has put a video of Rocco moving on YouTube – he did very well and I was very proud of my son!

The cup Rocco won was huge and to get another chair meant that there is one for Mum and one for Dad. I went in next and I won Best Adult of Group 8 and won a lovely red vase for Mum and Dad. I didn’t manage to do as well as Rocco but I was extremely pleased with all my puppies and I won something for Mum and Dad too so she was very pleased with us all…

My puppies first show

Yesterday Mum, Dad and Uncle John took us to my puppies first show in Murcia. We got up early and Dad and John loaded the car with our cages and blankets and some food and drink and we travelled in the car for about an hour to Murcia. When we got to the hall there were loads of people and dogs and my puppies were a bit scared with all the noise but I kept telling them everything was OK and this was what a show was like.

Because all the puppies had to go into the ring together Mum asked some of her friends to show the puppies with her. Jose showed Ruby, Jorge showed Rocco, Uncle John showed Millie and Mum showed Amber and me of course! This is a photo that Dad took of my puppies all lined up in the ring -

Rocco was a bit overwhelmed and forgot a lot of what Mum and Dad had taught him – Jorge said he was “mal” and I told him he should do better next time but the other three girls were good. Mum and Amber won the class and they then went on to win the Best Puppy in Group 8 with a lovely silver cup – she was a very clever girl. Mum showed me or rather I showed myself and won Best of Breed but didn’t get anywhere in the group this time…

Mum decided that they should all get more practice and go into the Breeders class and she was very pleased when they won 3rd place in this class too and a gold cup…

Everyone tried to get them all on the podium but Rocco and Amber just put their front paws on…I was very proud of them!

After this we packed up and went home – it was a long day but I was very pleased with my puppies as they were very good. They also slept for a long time last night and didn’t wake up very early as they usually do so I think they were a bit tired too! I enjoyed the day out with them and can’t wait to go to the next one…

Six months old

Mum has now got a new camcorder camera and Dad has taken some videos of us playing on our walks with the tennis ball and the “flingy thing” as Mum calls it…the first two videos didn’t come out so well Mum says as she did something wrong on the computer but the next ones are fine. The one below has a bit of me in it – Dad keeps taking photos of my puppies and not me – I don’t know why – he knows I love having my photo taken!

It has been very hot here this month so we have been going for our walks in the early morning and late at night – in the day it is too hot to do anything else but sleep inside the house or go in the swimming pool. I can’t wait for the cooler weather to come and then we can go out more…

5 months old

I have been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to let you know how things are going with my puppies but all is well. Now let me see – Dora has now gone to some new owners – Charlotte and Billy as it didn’t work out with Pam and John. She is now called Shona and has come to visit us a number of times – she told me last time she visited that she was very happy now and has put the two cats who also live with her in their place! (Good girl!)

Rosa has gone to live with a friend of Mum’s in Madrid called Carmen and with two Irish Red and White Setters – Sally and Daire who she says are much bigger than her. She is having a great time though and they are very protective of her – I think they think they have a new IRWS puppy not a WSS! They are making her very welcome though, which is the main thing. Lucia came down to pick her up and Mum took a video of her in the swimming pool fetching a stick on the last day here.

Rocco and Amber have been having races in the swimming pool and fetching the tennis ball and seeing who can get back to the steps first. Amber is trying very hard but Rocco is a strong swimmer and always get there first – he is a boy after all!

Unfortunately Mum has lost the video camera and Dad says he has bought her another one but we are waiting for it to be sent to us then she can do some more videos of us all…silly Mum!

15 weeks old – swimming in the pool…

Because my puppies like water and because it has been very hot lately Mum and I decided to show them how to swim in the swimming pool in the garden. I have a yellow rubber duck which Mum and Dad throw in the pool for me and then I swim in to get it so I thought I would show the puppies how to do this.

One by one the puppies were gently put in the water and then they swam back to the steps. Amber was the only one who got the idea that she had to fetch the yellow duck and swim back with it – I’ll get them all to do it next time!
